The ingredients to favor in Summer to have beautiful skin.

The weather is nice and it's hot in Quebec! We are delighted, but what effect can this have on your skin and how can you adapt your care?

When it comes to skin care, summer can be a rather difficult time for many. Moisture, sun, and sweat can really wreak havoc on your skin by clogging your pores or simply unbalancing your sebum production. That said, arid heat, especially with very intense sunshine, can completely dry out your skin, especially if you have dry skin to start with.

Fortunately, there are ways to effectively tailor your regular skincare routine to not only help keep it under control, but also protect it from lasting sun damage!

That's why in this article we are going to talk about heat and humidity, sun protection for your skin, summer skin care routine tips, ingredients to incorporate into your routine summer skin care products, and finally, some tips to improve your summer skin care routine!

Protect your skin from the sun: 5 simple tips to adopt now

  • Throw away the very old sunscreen (but save the sunscreen from last summer!):

Theoretically, sunscreen is supposed to be effective for three years, so if you find your sunscreen from last year in the back of a drawer, that's not too bad. That said, if you find a tube from the early 2000s, it will be best to throw it away. You don't want to go out in the scorching sun and find that your sunscreen is way past its peak!

  • Make sure to protect your lips, scalp, and eyes from the sun:

Usually, when most of us apply sunscreen, we do it pretty quickly, spreading it all over our face, which is why most of the time we forget to protect our lips, our eyes, his ears, his neck, and especially his scalp. These are all areas that get a lot of sun without our realizing it.

Apply a lip balm containing sun protection, and ideally, a protective spray for your scalp and your hair, or opt for a hat during the hottest hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Raw shea butter and lavender essential oil have a natural protection factor of 6. You will find these 2 ingredients in our Hydralia balm, perfect for moisturizing, repairing and protecting your lips.

  • Make sure to reapply sunscreen:

Between sweating, outdoor activities and the heat of summer, sunscreen tends to melt on the skin, especially if you spend a lot of time in the water. Make sure to reapply it every two hours to get the best protection possible!

  • Increase your FPS:

If you're one of those folks who know how to wear SPF all year round, take a look at what you're using and consider upgrading your protection for the summer. Most experts agree that an SPF of 30 is the minimum to wear to really protect yourself from the sun, especially in summer.

  • Use a foundation with an SPF:

If you really hate the idea of adding the extra step of putting on sunscreen, at least consider wearing a foundation with an SPF of 30 😉

Dry skin

Dry skin, we have three words for you: hydrate, hydrate and hydrate! The intense heat and the sun can not only make the skin dry but also sore. Moisturize your skin from the inside out by drinking at least 1.5 liters of water per day, and limit water loss from your skin with a good moisturizer to apply to your face. You don't have to worry about too much oil, so go ahead and make sure your skin stays hydrated.

Needless to say, a good organic oil serum like our serum Azur is an absolute must or Jasper, but you also need to make sure you are using the right cleanser, why not go for our Hypnos milk and his Regenerating mist of True Lavender or from Noble Chamomile, ideal for gently cleaning the skin.

Oily skin and combination skin

Oily skin has a hard time in the summer because the heat and humidity can really stimulate - a little too much - the sebaceous glands. The key here is to choose products that help balance and control excess oil, like our Gaia serum.

Oily skin types in particular also need to make sure that they keep their skin really, really clean so that makeup, dirt, sweat, and sebum don't have a chance to clog the pores.

A very simple alternative for a gentle cleansing, jojoba oil, followed by our Peppermint purifying mist. Apply it to your face by massaging with your fingertips, then use a damp washcloth to remove the excess, then spray the Organic Peppermint mist and then apply a few drops of the Gaia serum.

For combination skin, we proceed in the same way because the needs are very similar to oily skin except that some parts of the face need more hydration. We then opt for our Iris serum which combines organic oils specifically chosen to regulate sebum production where the skin needs it and to deeply hydrate other areas.

Sensitive skin (redness, pimples, sores, scaling)

You may have heard that spending time in the sun solves problems for sensitive skin and while it is true that the sun can temporarily create the appearance of a smoother complexion, there is no doubt that it is. a terrible long-term solution that can cause many more serious problems (resurgences of irritations and inflammations in the fall) and potentially irreversible thereafter such as acne scars whose brown coloring becomes more pronounced with the sun).

We avoid the sun and we use a simple and natural skincare routine, like our Hypnos cleanser, our soothing mist of Chamomile and our Ep serum for skin prone to eczema, our Lavender regenerating mist and our Cr serum for those prone to Couperose / Rosacea or our Peppermint purifying mist and our serum A for acne-prone skin ... and don't forget to use sun protection or a hat during the hottest hours of the day (12 p.m. to 4 p.m.).

The ingredients to favor

Natural ingredients - We realize this is a bit general, but it's just a reminder that summer is not the time to use harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances in your skin care. Make sure to stick to natural ingredients all year round as much as possible but especially in the summer.

Green tea - Green tea is a particularly mild ingredient, which contains EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), a compound that helps control sebum production. It can be found in your skin care, but you can consume it and enjoy its benefits from the inside out!

Sea buckthorn oil - Aloe Vera is like the queen bee of soothing ingredients. Nothing will help soothe the skin like aloe vera!

Rosehip oil - Rosehip Oil is wonderfully hydrating, making it ideal for summery skin that has been dried out by the sun and heat! Rich in vitamin C, it has an action on the pigmentation of the skin (brown spots and scars). It mainly makes up our serum C.

Shea Butter - He has no equal when it comes to repairing skin. Use as a moisturizer on the face and body or as a mask on the tips of the hair before washing them but also in case of sunburn to reduce the burn of the burn and repair the skin. Make sure it is raw and organic to guarantee you all its benefits (we take a quick look at the list of ingredients). Hydralia balm with raw and organic shea butter, hemp and lavender.

Vitamin C - Vitamin C is a perfect ingredient to help with dark spots. The ideal is to find it in a sweet vegetable oil rather than a synthetic one. To apply as a night care. Regenerating, it allows better healing, unifies the complexion, smoothes the skin and protects it from the harmful effects of the sun. Found naturally in sea buckthorn oil (400 mg) and therefore in our Gaia serum (oily skin) and Iris (combination skin), as well as in avocado oil with Jasper serum for dry skin or borage with Azur for mature skin.

Chamomile - Chamomile is so well known for its soothing properties that it is almost heartwarming to mention it! Use as a tonic as a soothing mist and throughout the day.

And for the last word, we wish you a great summer. Rest well, and take time for yourself.
